CINCINNATI -- Strength coaches and athletic trainers from Cincinnati's professional and collegiate teams and Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo will be joining forces for an event called the 2011 Great American Strength and Conditioning Symposium.
Scheduled for Nov. 19 from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. ET at the Champions Club inside Great American Ball Park and organized by Reds strength and conditioning coordinator Matt Krause, the program is for school trainers, coaches, physical therapists and parents. Among the topics to be covered are baseball, basketball, golf, football, nutrition and rehab.
Reds squeeze out a victory over Mets
NEW YORK -- Even in Game No. 161. with the end of the season almost here, the Reds found themselves grinding out a dogfight of a game in extra innings.
To get a 5-4, 13-inning win over the Mets, the Reds turned to their bag of tricks, with a suicide squeeze by Drew Stubbs scoring Juan Francisco with the go-ahead run.
With one out in the top of the 13th against reliever Dale Thayer, Francisco slugged a triple to the center-field wall with a slide into third that barely beat the tag. Next up was Drew Stubbs, who bunted toward third base as Francisco broke for home.
Reds squander opportunities, fall in 10 8/2/11
HOUSTON -- Monday night essentially summed up the maddening enigma the Reds have been this season.
It wasn't just that the Reds lost another heartbreaker -- this time a 4-3 defeat to the Astros in 10 innings. It wasn't just what they didn't have over the first nine innings -- a clutch hit, as they were 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position.
Cairo's homer helps Arroyo down Jays 6/19/11
CINCINNATI -- Bronson Arroyo and Dusty Baker disagree on why the Reds right hander put together his best outing of the season in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays.
Arroyo chalked up much of his success to luck, saying Toronto hitters merely popped out on his mistakes -- while other teams would have sent them sailing. Baker, for his part, thought otherwise.
"Everything is about location," Baker said. "He had great location."
Votto's homer lifts Arroyo to victory 6/14/11
LOS ANGELES -- The Reds are still searching for that moment when they move into a higher gear and start consistently breaking off wins. Based on what the rotation is putting together of late, that time might come sooner than later.
A nice evening on the mound carried Bronson Arroyo into the eighth inning and there was ample offense to back him up -- namely Joey Votto's three-run home run in the seventh inning -- during the Reds' 6-4 win over the Dodgers on Monday night.
Lineup change sparks Reds to win over Crew-Phillips drives in three runs after moving to cleanup spot 4/26/11
MILWAUKEE -- It was a Monday night when the right couple of buttons seemed to be pushed to give the Reds' lineup a quick little energy boost.
The big surge came during a six-run top of the third when 11 men came to plate and produced a season-high eight-hit inning before cruising to a 9-5 win over the Brewers at Miller Park. Leading the way was the team's new cleanup hitter, Brandon Phillips, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a walk and two runs.
"I came through. I'm glad I did because we really needed those runs," Phillips said.
Arroyo, 'pen pitch Reds back into win column 4/9/11
PHOENIX -- Bronson Arroyo knew rather early Saturday that his margin for error would be extremely low. Where did he come to that realization? Not as much on the mound, but in the batter's box while facing D-backs starter Daniel Hudson.
The Reds scored two first-inning runs off Hudson, and Arroyo stepped up his game during a 6-1 victory at Chase Field. It was a closer game than the score indicates, as the Reds scored four in the ninth off Arizona's bullpen.
Inaugural 'Reds Un-Cut' a big hit in Cincy
CINCINNATI -- Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo credited the personalities on this year's ballclub for helping make Sunday night's inaugural "Reds Un-Cut -- Live at the Aronoff" show entertaining, and said an unwavering commitment by his teammates and the Reds organization is what made the event possible.
"Lots of teams wouldn't even think about doing something like this," Arroyo said. "You wouldn't be able to get everyone on board, so they wouldn't bother. It says a lot about this team, being able to pull off this kind of show. We always have a good time together."
