Reds squeeze out a victory over Mets
NEW YORK -- Even in Game No. 161. with the end of the season almost here, the Reds found themselves grinding out a dogfight of a game in extra innings.
To get a 5-4, 13-inning win over the Mets, the Reds turned to their bag of tricks, with a suicide squeeze by Drew Stubbs scoring Juan Francisco with the go-ahead run.
With one out in the top of the 13th against reliever Dale Thayer, Francisco slugged a triple to the center-field wall with a slide into third that barely beat the tag. Next up was Drew Stubbs, who bunted toward third base as Francisco broke for home.

MILWAUKEE -- It was a Monday night when the right couple of buttons seemed to be pushed to give the Reds' lineup a quick little energy boost.
The big surge came during a six-run top of the third when 11 men came to plate and produced a season-high eight-hit inning before cruising to a 9-5 win over the Brewers at Miller Park. Leading the way was the team's new cleanup hitter, Brandon Phillips, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a walk and two runs.
"I came through. I'm glad I did because we really needed those runs," Phillips said.

PHOENIX -- Bronson Arroyo knew rather early Saturday that his margin for error would be extremely low. Where did he come to that realization? Not as much on the mound, but in the batter's box while facing D-backs starter Daniel Hudson.
The Reds scored two first-inning runs off Hudson, and Arroyo stepped up his game during a 6-1 victory at Chase Field. It was a closer game than the score indicates, as the Reds scored four in the ninth off Arizona's bullpen.

CINCINNATI -- Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo credited the personalities on this year's ballclub for helping make Sunday night's inaugural "Reds Un-Cut -- Live at the Aronoff" show entertaining, and said an unwavering commitment by his teammates and the Reds organization is what made the event possible.
"Lots of teams wouldn't even think about doing something like this," Arroyo said. "You wouldn't be able to get everyone on board, so they wouldn't bother. It says a lot about this team, being able to pull off this kind of show. We always have a good time together."
Big flies back Arroyo as Reds sweep Brewers
CINCINNATI -- The Brewers are supposed to be a big thorn in the Reds' hopes for repeating as National League Central champions this season. Just as much as having mononucleosis was expected to slow Bronson Arroyo down.
This weekend at least, neither proved to be so.
A 12-3 Reds thumping of the Brewers on a wind-blown Sunday afternoon at Great American Ball Park was a mostly drama-free completion of a three-game series sweep. Cincinnati equaled last season's high with 19 hits and also slugged four home runs, two by Ryan Hanigan.
