Phillips' triple lifts Reds to a crucial victory

The Reds might not have needed their last four runs if not for an early exit by Bronson Arroyo. The Reds' starter pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk and striking out four. He retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced but was lifted after only 86 pitches.
"He had a cramp in his forearm," Baker said. "I hated to take him out. He was masterful. He had a good fastball. He located it. He kept them off balance. ... The way he was dealing, it looked like he could go seven, eight (innings), maybe the whole way."
Said Arroyo: "I couldn't control my muscles. It's the first time it's happened to me. I felt like I had given Dusty all I had to give."
The Reds were leading 2-0 when Arroyo left, but the lead did not last an out after his departure.
