Bronson Arroyo has experienced a renaissance in his past five starts. He began the year throwing breaking ball after breaking ball, and hanging most of them. A lot of people across the Reds spectrum, including myself, even went to say his extension was pre-mature and rash judgment. His turnaround continued tonight against his old Pirates team.
After Arroyo plowed through the first inning, the Reds put the game out of reach in their half. After a Ken Griffey Jr. sac fly, Edwin Encarnacion doubled to left, scoring the wonder kid Jay Bruce. Joey Votto then shot a broken bat single to left, and with great hustle, Edwin followed Dunn home to make it 4-0. David Ross then put the stamp on the inning, blasting a homerun to right-center, a two-run shot and the first of Ross’ season. He would add another RBI in the fourth, but it was more than enough in a 9-1 Reds win.
